Getting your home ready for colder weather
The cooler weather is moving in and we’re getting jumpers back out of the wardrobe. Take a look at our tips to make sure your home is ready for the autumnal weather.
Radical radiators
Make sure your radiators are fighting fit before the chilly weather sets in. You might want to bleed them (reducing the air trapped inside), making sure they’re working their best.
Brilliant boilers
If you haven’t already, it’s a good time to get your boiler serviced. As cold weather moves in, you’ll be able to rest assured that your boiler is up to the task, heating your home and keeping you cosy.
Slow and steady
The best way to heat your home in the colder weather is by turning on your heating slowly. Changing the temperature fast can lead to materials shrinking and making spaces and cracks around windows and doors.
Great gutters
Leaves are falling and while it’s pretty, they can block gutters and drainage holes. Make sure your gutters are clear of any leaves and debris. It’s also a good opportunity to make sure any external pipes are fixed firmly to the wall ahead of winter winds.
Fight frozen furniture
Make sure your garden furniture, barbecues and outdoor toys are all packed away safely. You can buy a cover to protect them from wintry weather, or store them inside.
Luscious lawns
If you have a lawn, rake any leaves off it and let it grow a little longer to protect it from chilly weather. The winter is a great time to cut back plants and prepare for Spring’s activities.
