Carrying out safety checks in your home

If you rent your Sage home, it’s our responsibility to keep your home safe. To do this, we need to come inside every now and then to carry out some simple safety checks.

When you signed your tenancy agreement, you said you would let us in to carry out these checks. It’s really important you let us in, and if you don’t, we could have to take you to court.

No one wants to do that, so please help us keep you safe in your home by letting us in when needed. We’ll never turn up randomly, but will always arrange an appointment with you first.

What will we check?

We check your gas appliances every year. This covers your boiler, cooker, any gas fires, flues and chimneys. This check will take between half an hour to an hour. 

Every five years we need to check your electrical safety. This check can take around two hours (or sometimes a bit more). 

We also check your home’s overall condition every five years, including the walls, doors, windows, kitchen and bathroom. This check will take between half an hour to an hour.

All these checks are free. 


Keeping you safe

We use specialist contractors for these checks, and they’ll get in touch with you to sort out a time and date that works for you. They’ll always carry ID so you can feel safe letting them in. 

Keep an eye out for an email from us to let you know our contractors will be in touch. They’ll send you a letter with a proposed time and date – and you can confirm or change this with them directly.
